As an English secondary school teacher I have too many favourite novels, plays and poems to mention! As a child I loved Errol le Cain’s The Twelve Dancing Princesses, Joan Aiken’s The Wolves Chronicles, Susan Cooper’s The Dark Is Rising series, Brian Jacques’ Redwall books, Robin Jarvis’s author-illustrated works, The Deptford Mice series and The Whitby Witches.

4. Favourite animal

My three-legged cat, Peg.

5. Favourite game

‘Snappy Snapper’, when I pretend to be a nipping crab in the swimming pool with my daughters.

I love films, particularly period dramas like The Imitation Game but most often I watch TV adaptations of literature such as War and Peace and The Golden Crown. Disney’s Moana was stunning.

7. Favourite illustrating tool

Faber-Castell crayons.

8. Favourite place to illustrate

Using an iPad Pro means I am pretty mobile. For my watercolour, gouache or crayon artwork I work mostly in the living room where my desk is set up. I also like sketching on the train.

9. Favourite illustrators

Sara Ogilvie and Marc Boutavant.

10. Creative mantra

Don’t be too precious, be flexible and try new things.
